Donate T-shirts for the Kidney Foundation

After SBW donated to the Kidney Foundation to help send a child to camp, our team formed a special bond with the organization. This was a cause close to our hearts, and we were proud to continue supporting it in various ways. Last year, for instance, we had the chance to participate in the Don Sutherland Memorial Slo-Pitch Tournament, an event that helped raise funds for the Kidney Foundation Walk in Pembroke. It was an unforgettable experience, both for the fun of playing and for the incredible sense of giving back to the community.

In addition to our involvement in the tournament, we also worked to make a meaningful connection between the Kidney Foundation and some talented local mask makers who were using donated t-shirts to create masks. This initiative sparked an idea within the team, and we were eager to contribute. We decided that, moving forward, we would collect t-shirts at our weekly practices and scrimmage games to donate to this cause. The idea was to provide the mask makers with a steady supply of fabric that could be repurposed into something valuable for the community.

The guidelines for the t-shirts we would be collecting were simple but important: they had to be 100% cotton, not too thin, and in reasonable condition—meaning no holes or stains. The kinds of shirts we had in mind were similar to the ones often given as prizes at NSA events or handed out during volunteer activities. These shirts, still in good shape but no longer needed by their owners, were the perfect fit for the project.

It felt great knowing that our team could help contribute to a creative solution for a worthy cause. This effort was just another example of how SBW continually strives to make an impact off the field, strengthening our relationships with local organizations and supporting those in need.
