Tuesday Men’s League game Playoffs

Hello Captains,

This is a long and informative email. Please ensure you read through it and share this with your players!

TOURNAMENT RULES

• Home/Away is chosen by the higher seeded team in the regular season standings. The only time this does not apply is in the two final games.

o   Game #1 of the final will be determined by the undefeated team.

o   Game #2 if needed, goes to a coin flip

• Every team should bring their board to every game. We don’t want to delay games because there is not a home plate available.

• Teams are allowed to collapse a batting order if someone is leaving a bit early, Lineups CANNOT be adjusted mid-game, only collapsed. If you are unsure what this means, please connect with the umpire BEFORE beginning the game. We realize there are many tournaments happening this weekend and many players are playing in multiple tournaments for multiple teams.

• Batters MUST reach first base before a courtesy runner can be used.  For the regular season we allow teams to make informal agreements regarding courtesy runners, but for playoffs, the written rule must be applied.

UMPIRE RESPECT

We are again reminding players that there will be ZERO TOLERANCE for any disrespect to the umpires. If you do not like a call or have a question, the CAPTAIN can KINDLY address the umpire with the concern. We do not want to hear chirps from the bench, or the stands. We will be around the diamonds and ensuring players are respecting the umpires! Another reminder that if a player is ejected from ONE game, they are not allowed to play ANY further games throughout the playoffs, on ANY team. This includes any games scheduled on the weekend, during the week, or the remaining FALL BALL season. Please share this with your team. Ejected players are required to leave the park once ejected. No questions. If they do not leave, their team will forfeit the game.

PLAYER RESPECT

In addition to respecting the umpires, we expect players to respect other players. We all need to remember that we have families, jobs, and lives to return to after these games. There is no need for disrespectful behaviour toward other players. We are adults playing recreational softball. This weekend is intended to be FUN!

FINAL BRACKETS

We did have a couple teams unable to make the weekend tournament so there have been SLIGHT amendments to some schedules. Please look online for the most up to date bracket. We will be updating brackets throughout the weekend so online will have the most up to date versions.

REMEMBER TO SUBMIT SCORES

Please have someone submit your score after each game through the website, whether you win or lose! This allows us to properly update the brackets.

PROTESTS

OttawaSoftball are following the guidelines of Softball Canada and will be instituting a $50 protest fee this year.   If a team chooses to protest, the captain must provide the umpire / admin with $50 before any action will be taken by the admin.  Any protest that is deemed to be correct will have the money returned to the captain. This is designed to limit the number of teams/players simply trying to throw a dart at the board. Umpire judgement calls are not protestable.

ROSTERS

 As always, we expect a barrage of “roster protests” for the end of year tournament.  Any roster changes after the August deadline without express permission from OttawaSoftball Admin are invalid.  If your team is using un-rostered players without permission, you risk losing the relevant game and/or tournament. Players are only allowed to play on ONE team within the same division. Players need to have played during the regular season to play in the weekend for playoffs.

WEATHER FORECAST

If there is rain in the forecast, please report to your scheduled diamonds. Games will be called at the diamond.

PLEASE DO NOT MESSAGE US ASKING IF YOUR GAME IS CANCELLED. We have over 70 teams we are dealing with this weekend and unfortunately will not be able to answer individual messages.
